The shooting players of Jamia Millia Islamia made a significant impact at the recently concluded 48th UP State Shooting Championship, held by the UP State Rifle Association in Jaipur, Rajasthan, from August 30 to September 7, 2025. Their remarkable performances at the championship not only earned them prestigious medals but also brought honor to their alma mater, Jamia Millia Islamia. Azeem, a second-year student pursuing a B.A. (Hons.) in Hindi, emerged as the star of the competition. He clinched the Gold Medal in the 25 Meter Sports Pistol event and added a Silver Medal in the 50 Meter Free Pistol event. His excellent display of skill, precision, and focus contributed greatly to his success, marking him as one of the championship's top shooters. Syed Mohammad Umar Peerzada, a first-year M.Com. (Business Management) student, also made a strong showing in the competition. Umar secured the Gold Medal in the 25 Meter Centre Fire Pistol event and earned a Bronze Medal in the 25 Meter Sports Pistol event. His achievements reflect not only his personal dedication but also the exceptional training provided by Jamias shooting program. Another remarkable performer was Faiz Rehman, a third-year B.A. (Hons.) Mass Media Hindi student. Faizs stellar performance in the 32 Center Fire Pistol event earned him the Bronze Medal. This was Faizs first appearance in the championship, and his achievement sets a promising foundation for his future in competitive shooting. Prof. Mazhar Asif, the Vice-Chancellor of Jamia, was full of praise for the shooters. He congratulated them on their outstanding achievements and emphasized that their success was not only a result of their individual talents but also a reflection of the high-quality training they had received at Jamia. Prof. Asif further stated that their success serves as an inspiration to other students at Jamia, encouraging them to pursue excellence in their respective fields. Prof. Md. Mahtab Alam Rizvi, the Registrar of Jamia, echoed similar sentiments, congratulating the three shooters and wishing them continued success in future competitions. He also expressed his confidence in their ability to bring home more medals in the upcoming tournaments. Union Minister of Youth Affairs & Sports, Dr. Mansukh Mandaviya, has consistently emphasized the importance of fostering a culture of sports across the nation. His remarks at the Sportstar x KPMG PLAYCOM Business of Sports Summit 2025 were particularly poignant. Dr. Mandaviya called for a national movement to embed sports in every household, aiming to make every street in India a sporting arena. Dr. Mandaviya's vision for sports in India includes making sports an integral part of both the national economy and cultural identity. He specifically highlighted initiatives like Khelo India and Fit India, which have gained traction in Indias quest to become a top sporting nation. These programs have been instrumental in raising awareness about sports and providing opportunities for young athletes to showcase their skills.
