✍️By ZRIntel Editorial Team📍Jaipur, Rajasthan, IndiaJamia Millia Islamias shooting team turned heads with a remarkable performance at the recently concluded 48th UP State Shooting Championship, held from August 30 to September 7, 2025, in Jaipur, Rajasthan. Organized by the UP State Rifle Association, the competition brought together some of the finest marksmen and markswomen from across the state, and Jamias athletes proved that the university is rapidly emerging as a powerhouse in competitive shooting. Azeem, a second-year BA (Hons.) Hindi student and one of the universitys standout shooting players, captured a Gold Medal in the 25-Meter Sports Pistol event and added a Silver Medal in the 50-Meter Free Pistol event to his tally. His ability to excel in two separate pistol disciplines reflects not just his technical skill, but also his composure under pressure. Syed Mohammad Umar Peerzada, a first-year M.Com. (Business Management) student, followed suit with a Gold Medal in the 25-Meter Centre Fire Pistol event and a Bronze Medal in the 25-Meter Sports Pistol event. Umars consistent accuracy and ability to maintain focus in back-to-back events were a highlight of Jamias campaign. Rounding out the medal count was Faiz Rehman, a third-year BA (Hons.) Mass Media Hindi student, who earned a Bronze Medal in the 32 Center Fire Pistol event, ensuring that Jamia had representation on the podium in multiple categories. The victories were met with widespread praise from Jamia leadership. Vice-Chancellor Prof. Mazhar Asif congratulated the medalists, calling their wins a source of pride for the entire university community. He emphasized that their accomplishments demonstrate the value of sustained training and institutional support, and expressed hope that their success would inspire other students to take up shooting sports seriously. Registrar Prof. Md. Mahtab Alam Rizvi added his congratulations, reaffirming that Jamia is committed to providing the resources necessary to nurture athletic talent alongside academic excellence. Prof. Nafis Ahmad, Honorary Director (Games & Sports), encouraged the shooters to continue working hard and promised full institutional backing as they prepare for upcoming state and national competitions. The impact of their performance extends beyond the campus. Nationally, Union Minister of Youth Affairs & Sports and Labour & Employment Dr. Mansukh Mandaviya seized the moment to emphasize the need to embed a sporting culture across India. He reiterated that every neighborhood should become a sporting arena and that sporting excellence must be recognized and celebrated at every level. Dr. Mandaviya also spoke about the governments 10-year and 25-year strategic plans to elevate India into the ranks of the worlds top five sporting nations, promising reforms that will ensure equal opportunity, respect, and support for athletes across disciplines. This combination of athlete achievement, institutional encouragement, and national policy vision is helping to elevate shooting sports in India. Jamias results at the state championship not only enhance its reputation as a center for competitive training but also contribute to a growing culture of excellence that can help India compete more effectively on the international stage. The exposure these students gain at events like the UP State Shooting Championship will likely serve as a stepping stone toward national selection and possibly international representation in years to come.
