On June 25, 2026, law enforcement in Sparks, Nevada, arrested an intoxicated individual involved in several alarming incidents, including threatening a bystander with a handgun, multiple hit-and-run accidents, and evading police. According to the Sparks Police Department's Facebook update, the suspect, identified as Johnny Felix Velasquez, was observed acting erratically while brandishing a firearm from a white Jeep at approximately 7:46 PM. Upon receiving reports of his behavior, officers quickly located the vehicle but were met with resistance as Velasquez fled the scene at a high speed when they attempted to initiate a traffic stop.
The situation escalated as dispatch later reported that the suspect had been involved in additional traffic accidents in Reno. After abandoning the vehicle, Velasquez was eventually found by officers on foot and apprehended at Rail City Casino. The suspect was not cooperative with law enforcement or medical personnel, necessitating treatment at a local hospital before being transferred to the Washoe County Sheriff’s Office. He now faces serious charges, including felony assault with a deadly weapon, several counts of eluding authorities, reckless driving, and resisting officers, with further charges potentially forthcoming from the Reno Police Department.
The Sparks Police Department is urging witnesses of the events to provide information either directly or through their tip line.
