Suffolk County District Attorney Raymond A. Tierney announced on July 9, 2025, the successful conclusion of a long-term investigation into an alleged gun trafficking operation, resulting in the largest ghost gun seizure in Suffolk County history. In partnership with the Suffolk County Police Department, investigators recovered over 112 illegal firearms, including 3D-printed ghost guns, twelve three-dimensional printers, 67 suppressors, and a substantial quantity of ammunition and machinery used to manufacture weapons. The alleged ringleader, Daniel Probeck of Medford, has been charged with numerous felonies, including Criminal Sale of a Firearm in the Second Degree, a Class C violent felony, and multiple counts of Criminal Possession of a Weapon. According to the investigation, which began in March 2025, Probeck allegedly sold un-serialized, illegal firearms to an undercover police officer on multiple occasions for cash. This included the sale of four firearms, three of which were assault rifles. District Attorney Tierney emphasized that Probeck was not merely a collector but was actively manufacturing and selling these illegal weapons for profit, posing a significant threat to public safety. The sheer volume and sophistication of the recovered items highlight a growing concern over the proliferation of untraceable firearms. Probeck is currently being held on $500,000 cash bail, $2,000,000 bond, or $3,000,000 partially secured bond, and is due back in court on August 5, 2025. If convicted on the top count, he faces up to 25 years in prison followed by five years of post-release supervision.
