Texas Range Hosts Women-Only Defensive Handgun Clinic

AUSTIN, Texas A Central Texas range hosted a sold-out women-only defensive handgun clinic this weekend, providing an entry point for women interested in learning self-defense with a firearm. Led by a team of female instructors certified through the USCCA and NRA, the program blended classroom instruction with live-fire drills. Participants learned firearm safety fundamentals, concealed carry considerations, situational awareness, and defensive shooting techniques. Live-fire segments emphasized rapid target acquisition, controlled pairs, and shooting from concealment. The instructors also included low-light shooting demonstrations and basic malfunction clearing. Event organizer and lead instructor Karen Ortiz said the goal was to create a comfortable, supportive environment. We want women to leave here confident in both their skills and their ability to make informed decisions about personal safety, she said. The clinic concluded with an optional skills assessment and Q&A session on next steps in defensive training.
