Texas to Implement New Changes for 2025-26 Hunting Season: What Hunters Need to Know
📅
✍️By ZRIntel Editorial Team📍TexasAs the 2025-26 hunting season approaches, Texas hunters are in for some important changes. The Texas Parks and Wildlife Department (TPWD) has announced a series of new dates and regulations for various hunting seasons, including updates for deer, turkey, and migratory bird hunters. For the first time, TPWD will offer fully digital license options for all recreational hunting and fishing licenses, making it easier for hunters to access their permits through their smartphones or other digital devices. In addition to the digital licenses, a significant change is being implemented for non-resident hunters. Previously, non-residents had to navigate through five different license options, but thanks to a recent legislative change, this number has been reduced to just two. Non-resident hunters who want to harvest any legal bird or game animal, including species like alligator, wild turkey, pronghorn, mule deer, and white-tailed deer, will now only need to purchase a Non-resident General Hunting license. Those targeting exotic animals, small game, and non-game animals will need to buy the Non-resident Special 5-Day Small Game/Exotic Hunting license. This change is expected to simplify the process for out-of-state hunters. A number of regulation changes are also in store. Among the most notable is the increase in the daily bag limit for northern pintails in all duck zones, which should be welcomed by waterfowl hunters across the state. Furthermore, for wild turkeys in Hill County, the IH35E corridor has now been designated as the boundary line for the hunting zones. This means that turkey hunters should be aware of this updated boundary to avoid confusion. Season dates are another area of change. The state will see an expansion of the archery mule deer season, which now includes both the Panhandle and Trans Pecos regions, offering hunters more time in these regions to pursue mule deer. In addition, the quail hunting season will also see new dates, allowing hunters to adapt their schedules accordingly. Perhaps the most crucial update for hunters is the reduction in days for the September teal season. The season, which historically ran for a longer period, will now be confined to a new timeframe from September 20 to September 28. This change aims to better align with migratory patterns and ensure sustainable hunting practices for migratory birds. Hunters are advised to thoroughly review all changes in the 2025-26 hunting regulations to avoid any issues. Updated regulations and season dates are available online on the TPWD website and the TPWD Outdoor Annual mobile app. These resources are invaluable for ensuring compliance with the latest rules and taking full advantage of the hunting season.
