USAA launches 5-year, $500M effort to boost economic outcomes for vets, military families
📅
✍️By ZRIntel Editorial Team📍United States(TNND) As Veterans Day approaches, USAA is initiating a nationwide movement fueled by a substantial investment of $500 million over the next five years. This initiative aims to assist veterans and military spouses in achieving meaningful careers, financial stability, and enhanced well-being. Jenna Saucedo-Herrera, USAAs head of corporate impact, emphasized the importance of efforts beyond a simple 'thank you' for military service. The intentional actions, advocacy, and support can truly transform lives and secure brighter futures, she stated, pointing to the initiative's primary goal: Honor Through Action. This initiative builds upon USAAs existing Face the Fight coalition, which was established to prevent veteran suicides. The funds allocated will be directed towards targeted philanthropy, policy advocacy, investments, procurement, and other strategies aimed at improving economic outcomes for veterans and military families. With only about one-third of junior enlisted families reporting financial stability and a military spouse unemployment rate significantly higher than their civilian counterparts, this initiative addresses critical needs within the veteran community. Fewer than 20% of transitioning service members feel adequately prepared for civilian employment, highlighting the urgent need for support and guidance. Through Honor Through Action, USAA is set to provide resources for career navigation, employer engagement, skills development, and community assistance. The organization plans to collaborate with public, private, and nonprofit partners to enhance these efforts. A lot of the challenges surrounding meaningful careers, financial security, and overall well-being persist, Saucedo-Herrera acknowledged. USAA aims to lead from the front, acting as a quarterback to mobilize an alliance that not only offers financial capital but also illuminates potential opportunities for veterans and inspires others to contribute to the cause. This new initiative is a natural progression from USAAs Face the Fight, now two years into its operation and boasting 300 partners. The organization aims to save 6,500 lives by 2030 through initiatives that enhance mental health and reduce veteran suicides. Recognizing that mental health and veteran suicides are critical issues for their membership, Saucedo-Herrera expressed the need for a proactive approach: We know that we cant just focus there; we also need to address the root issues of career stability and financial security. In fact, the Honor Through Action initiative is designed to extend support further upstream. By fostering meaningful careers, USAA aims to create financial stability that ultimately contributes to the well-being necessary to save lives. The launch of the Honor Through Action initiative is timely, revealing USAA's commitment to systemic change. Building its alliance, USAA plans to announce several partners next month, with mobilization efforts beginning early next year. These partners may contribute through military affiliate hiring or support for existing nonprofits dedicated to aiding military families and veterans. This isn't a one-off campaign; we are committed to driving long-term systemic change together, Saucedo-Herrera concluded. As USAA lays the groundwork for this ambitious initiative, early reports suggest a positive reception among veterans and advocates. However, the challenge remains in translating this vision into actionable outcomes and measurable impacts on the lives of veterans and military families. With the landscape of veteran support evolving, the involvement of diverse stakeholders will be essential in achieving these critical goals.
