Citing safety concerns, the Waynesburg Police Department in Pennsylvania has voted to replace its standard-issue Sig Sauer P320 pistols. Reports of unintentional dischargesincluding a fatal incident at an Air Force baseprompted the borough council to allocate $12,600 for FN 509 replacements. The decision aligns with similar actions by departments in Houston and Wake County, N.C. A 2023 investigation by The Washington Post and The Trace found over 100 alleged accidental discharges linked to the P320, with at least 80 resulting in injury. Chief Billy Nichols cited growing liability and declining confidence in the platform, noting that even local police academies have banned the P320. Despite Sig Sauers claims that the firearm cannot discharge without a trigger pull, lawsuits continue to mount.
