A recent traffic stop by New York State Police (NYSP) on April 30 led to the discovery of several firearms in a vehicle on I-84, which raises significant concerns regarding illegal weapons in circulation. The vehicle, a Toyota, was stopped due to traffic violations at approximately 9 p.m. The driver, 30-year-old Cotman A. Rosario Suarez from West Hazleton, Pennsylvania, agreed to a search that revealed an American Tactical semi-automatic rifle, a Glock 9mm semi-automatic pistol, a Pioneer Arms Classic Pro AK-style pistol, and high-capacity magazines.
Rosario Suarez was arrested on several serious weapons charges, including multiple counts related to the possession and transportation of illegal firearms. Notably, the charges include manufacture, transport, and criminal possession of assault weapons. After being arraigned in the Town of Southeast Court on May 1, he was released on his own recognizance, which reflects a broader issue concerning how weapon violations are adjudicated in New York State.
