LANSING, Mich. The Womens Firearm Academy has announced a major expansion of its training programs across Michigan, responding to increased demand from new and returning female shooters. Led by certified instructor Lisa Montgomery, the academy offers courses from basic handgun handling to advanced defensive shooting. Montgomery, a former law enforcement officer, emphasizes situational awareness, safe storage, and responsible carry practices. New partnerships with local ranges in Detroit, Grand Rapids, and Traverse City will allow more women to train closer to home. The academy is also introducing a mentorship track where graduates can shadow instructors, fostering peer-led learning and confidence-building. Montgomery notes that the surge in interest has been driven partly by women seeking personal protection skills in light of rising crime rates and partly by those exploring shooting as a sport. Classes are capped at small numbers to ensure individual attention, with one-on-one coaching available. Participants also receive resources on firearm law, home-defense planning, and continued practice routines.
