CHENGDU, China Italys Matteo Borsani and Germanys Elisa Tartler emerged as top seeds in their respective divisions after the recurve field qualification at the Chengdu 2025 World Games took an unexpected turn. Organizers relocated five targets from wooded areas around Qinglong Lake Park to more open terrain after venomous snakes were discovered along the original course. The adjustment shifted the competitive dynamic, producing a flatter and less technical shooting field. For some archers, the change offered clearer sightlines; for others, it removed the challenge they had trained for. Tartler, a bronze medalist at the 2022 Birmingham World Games, secured the womens lead with a score of 705, narrowly edging Slovakias Denisa Barankova on a tie-breaker. Defending champion Chiara Rebagliati of Italy placed third. Borsani overcame a morning equipment malfunction with a strong marked round in the afternoon, recalling his previous success in Chengdu during the 2021 Summer World University Games, where he earned a team bronze.
