Zoravar Singh Sandhu has made history by winning a bronze medal in the mens trap event at the International Shooting Sports Federation (ISSF) World Championship, held on October 17, 2025, at the Malakasa Shooting Range in Athens, Greece. This landmark achievement represents only the third individual world championship medal for India in trap shooting, underscoring the continuous growth and commitment of the Indian shooting squad. Zoravar, now 48, shot impressively under challenging conditions including rain and tricky lighting. Despite starting off with a difficult bib number six, he showcased exceptional skill and determination, securing 31 out of 40 targets in the final round, concluding the event behind Croatia's Josip Glasnovic and Spain's Andres Garcia who claimed gold and silver, respectively. The President of the National Rifle Association of India (NRAI), Shri Kalikesh Narayan Singh Deo, expressed his pride in Zoravar's achievement stating, It is yet another historic moment for Indian shooting. He praised the entire Australian coaching staff, particularly focusing on Peter Wilson, who has played a crucial role in elevating the performance of the Trap squad. The dedication and commitment of Zoravar are evident, especially considering he has reached this level of success after 31 years since his first appearance in junior championships. Leading up to the final, Zoravar's challenge began early in the competition, where he demonstrated consistency in his qualification rounds. He logged an impressive total of 122 targets out of 100, showcasing his preparedness and mental fortitude. The competition was fierce with former world champion Anton Glasnovic setting a world record qualification score of 125. Zoravar entered the finals through a difficult three-way shoot-off, demonstrating his competitive spirit. During the finals, he faced the pressure of the initial misses and the weather conditions that changed rapidly. Despite some early misses, Zoravar managed to secure his position amongst his competitors. However, as the finals progressed, the rain affected the performance of many shooters, and Zoravar found himself in a striking position to vie for gold but ultimately settled for bronze after missing three of his last five targets. The women's trap final saw Spanish shooter Mar Molne Magrina take home the gold, while Italy's Silvana Maria Stanco came in second. This event marks a promising trend for Indian shooting, as the country now aims for further glory with two teams set to compete in the new Olympic event, the Trap Mixed Team, on the final day of competition.
